Canadian-American author, born in Darien, Connecticut in the USA. Just before his fourth birthday, the family moved to Toronto in Canada. Linwood Barclay’s father was an illustrator and graphic artist mainly for the car industry but when this to an increasing degree started using photographs, in 1966 – following the advice of his wife – he bought a camping site with a small cabin village in Bobcaygeon by Pigeon Lake in Ontario. The father died in 1971, and at age 16 his son had to take over responsibility for the camping activities and the cabins. Barclay’s major interest was, however, literature, especially detective stories, and his dream was to write himself.
