The American writer Linda Castillo first wrote a series of books on romance and relations, and then got her breakthrough with her first clean-cut crime novel. With Sworn to Silence (2009) she created a certain sub-genre of her own, "Amish crime novels", and subsequently published a series of titles about the female police officer Kate Burkholder in the small community Painters Mill, Ohio, where numerous Amish live.
