Nelson Richard DeMille is an American author of action adventure and suspense novels. He was born in Queens, New York, to a Canadian father and American-Italian mother. When he was still young, the family moved to Long Island. In 1962 he graduated from Elmont Memorial High School where he was on the high school football and track running teams. After three years at Hofstra University, Hempstead, he joined an army officer training school and served in the army between 1966 and 1969, among other things as a platoon leader in Vietnam.
