Susan Elizabeth George was born in Warren, Ohio. Her family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1950, and Elizabeth George attended school there. She soon developed a taste for reading, and when she was seven years old she began to write little stories. After attending the University of California, Riverside, graduating with a major in English, she taught English between 1974 and 1987 at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana until she was laid off after her work for the teachers’ union led to a conflict with her employer. She got a job at El Toro High School where she stayed until she became a full-time writer. She has a degree in psychology from California State University, Fullerton, and she has taught creative writing at a number of American universities.
