The German author Gisa Klönne was born in Stuttgart and grew up in Darmstadt. She wanted to become an author from an early age. She read languages, political science and film studies at the universities of Darmsstadt, Guildford (the UK) and Cologne, graduating with a Master of Arts degree. She became the editor of the feminist women’s magazine Emma in 1993 and wrote for numerous other magazines and newspapers. She was also active in the environmental organisation Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland and between 1996 and 1998 she was editor-in-chief of the organisation’s membership magazine. In 1999, she started to work as a freelance travel and social reporter, writing crime fiction as a sideline.
