English author Clare Mackintosh has been amply awarded at home and abroad, mainly for her crime novels. She was born in Bristol, and grew up in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, where she went to high school. She attended Royal Holloway University in Surrey, where she majored in management and French, and worked for a year as a business secretary in Paris at the end of the course. However, she wanted to work as a police officer, so she returned to GB, joined the force, and after basic training was posted to Chipping Norton in Cotswold. She then was transferred to the Thames Valley Police as an operations inspector in Oxfordshire.
