David Peace is a British novelist. He was born and raised in Osset near Leeds in Yorkshire. He was educated in Wakefield, attended Manchester Polytechnic and played in a band that performed in aid of striking miners and against Thatcher’s government in the early eighties. He wrote a lot, unsuccessfully, and was often brutally turned down, was periodically unemployed, and in the early nineties he moved to Istanbul where he taught English. Peace moved to Tokyo in 1994 and lived there until 2009. That was where he wrote his successful debut novel, which is set in Yorkshire.
