The American author T.S. (Thomas Sigismund) Stribling was born in the little town of Clifton in Tennessee. His father had been a military man, his mother came from Alabama where her family owned a property – during his childhood, Stribling often spent his summers there. He was educated at Huntingdon Southern Normal University in Huntingdon, Tennessee, graduating in 1899. He wanted, however, to work with writing, so he was the editor of the local paper, the Clifton News for a year.
