The American mystery novelist Hillary Baldwin Waugh was born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut. He attended Hillhouse High School there before enrolling at Yale University, New Haven, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in music and art in 1942. He also edited the university humour magazine The Yale Record.
