English author and former stock-broker, born and grew up in London. Nowadays he lives in Hertfordshire with his wife and three children, and works part-time as a librarian. As an author he is greatly influenced by his background. His parents had divorced, he was never interested in school, starting doing various jobs when he was still a teenager, and he earned money handing out advertising leaflets. When he was 19 years old, he was attacked and stabbed by a robber, and this trauma meant he started to abuse drugs and alcohol. After a year, however, he decided to sort his life out, borrowed money so that he could educate himself to become a stock-broker and he got a job with a firm of stock-brokers.
