Margaret Yorke is the pseudonym of the popular English author of crime fiction Margaret Nicholson. She has been described as kind, helpful and forthcoming, but she could also be determined, sharp-tongued and single-minded, qualities that made her a highly appreciated member of various societies and associations. Margaret Nicholson was born in Compton, Surrey, as Margaret Larminie. Her parents soon moved with their daughter to Ireland – her father was Irish – and settled in Dublin. Because of the troubles, the family returned to England in 1937 where Margaret attended Prior’s Field girls’ school, a boarding school in Godalming.
