After the death of his wife, things went downhill for him, but author Peter Spiegelman lets (the approximately 180 cm tall) John March sober up, start drinking orange juice and go out running, as well as manage to acquire strong self-discipline and a new girlfriend, Jane Lu.

William of Baskerville
Male
The British Franciscan monk from Baskerville is the main character in just one novel – on the other hand, it is the classic <i>The Name of the Rose</i> by Umberto Eco. It is not just the name Baskerville which makes one think of Sherlock Holmes: William’s own ‘Watson’, Adso, describes him as tall, thin, strong, supple, with a crooked nose and sharp eyes, and aged around fifty. Maria Wern
Female
Maria Wern is a young sergeant who balances crime investigations with family life, including an insufferable husband. She later moves to the island of Gotland where she continues to solve crime. The author, Anna Jansson, has also written a number of young adult detective novels that feature Wern’s son, Emil.

Lars Martin Johansson
Male
Johansson is head of the Swedish Police. He first appears in Leif G. W. Persson’s first book <i>Grisfesten</i> and then returns in a string of novels by the author. He was previously married to Gunilla; they have two children together. After a few years he marries Pia who is 20 years younger. He is a passionate hunter and eventually dies of a stroke.
